Battle of the Wizards IV Rules
Type of magic allowed: Close-up, stage, etc. if it entertains then its valid. Keep it presentable to a family audience though.
Time Limit: Each act will be limited to no more than 8 minutes. (More on time keeping and penalities incurred to follow.)
Picking Volunteer(s): Contestants will not be allowed to pick judges for their volunteer(s) during their performance. To do so will result in the performers disqualification. ALL judges will be clearly identified / flagged/, etc.
Judging: Three lay-persons will be selected by the TCMS Dean to act as judges. They will give each performer a score from 1 to 10. 1 being lowest and 10 being the best. The judges' scores will then be added together to give a total. The highest total wins. In the event of a tie, the TCMS Dean will make the tie-breaking decision. All results will be final at the end of the contest. (The idea of using laypeople for judges was decided upon because we hoped the contest would be more a contest of entertaining ability instead of focusing on technical expertise and difficulty of tricks performed.)
Time Keeping: A time clock will be positioned directly in front (middle seat of the audience) of the contestant. The time clock will consist of a LCD Monitor with approx. 4 inch numbers to show the time. The background will be white until 7 minutes, when it will turn yellow, at 7 min 30 seconds it will turn orange, at 8 min it will turn red. At 8 min 30 seconds a penalty of one point will be deducted and then every additional 30 seconds will result in one point being deducted from the total.
Examples:
Up to 8 min 29 seconds ......no penalty.
8 minutes & (30 to 59) seconds .......one point deducted from total.
9 minutes & (0 to 29) seconds .......2 points deducted from total.
9 minutes & (30 to 59) seconds .......3 points deducted from total.
10 minutes & (0 to 29) seconds .....4 points deducted from total.
10 minutes & (30 to 59) seconds .... 5 points deducted from total.
ETC..........
