Tri-Cities Magicians' Society
Newsletter No. 2: May 2004
The Tri-Cities Magicians' Society (TCMS) is about to celebrate its six month anniversary. The clubs' first meeting was on December 3, 2003. Since that time the club members have been hard at work. There have been the monthly meetings, a lecture sponsored by the club, and a show performed for one of the local schools. Not bad for a club with only six members. We have had multiple guests at our meetings and we greatly appreciate each of them visiting us.
The Magic Fest 2004 show which was held at Millbrooke Elementary on March 23, 2004 was a hugh success. Attendance was between 300-400 and allowed the TCMS members to work on their performance skills in front of an audience. The school PTO earned money for its future activies and fun was had by all, not to mention the TCMS performers.
The Tom GIbson lecture in April was a large success. Despite bad weather, the TCMS members managed to get out and learn a great deal from Tom's exciting and educational lecture. Tom brings more than just tricks to the lecture, it's a thoughtful discussion on patter, what makes a trick, and how to make a trick yours. Very useful stuff.
What's next:
The club continues to promote the magical arts in the local communities and it plans to produce more shows locally, one presently in the works to help a church with community relations. The club will continue it's focus on the members working closely together to help improve each others abilities and skills. The club does this by having small group sessions and reviewing 'moves' and discussing different ways to reach the same goal. A focus on improving patter and ways to make tricks more effective are often discussed.
The club also plans to continue to bring lectures to the Tri-Cities area and is presently working on arranging some speakers for later this year.
Our website continues to grow. Feel free to check it out and find out what is going on with TCMS and in the local magic community. www.tricitiesmagic.com
